Quick one - can I swap 2.0l for 1.8l Aircooled?

Hi all
Some of you will have seen the result of a big end going in my engine, from the other thread. So, I'm now faced with choices of what to do, but I have just been offered the opportunity to buy a running 1.7l type 4. I'm very tempted so that I can get back on the road asap whilst I decide the fate of my CU 2.0l, but I was hoping someone could confirm to me that it would be an easy swap. Can I just bolt it up to my 4 speed box, use my existing starter motor and are the mounting points the same, using the same carrier as mine?
Thanks
Paul

Short answer is no it is not an easy swap.
The tin wear is different the 1.7 charging system is different it uses an external regulator the heating system is different.
It can be changed over but is a lot of work and would have to adapt the heat exchangers.

I converted a 1.6 CT to a 1.7W (Type 4 from a 411/914)
Its quite a lot of work, using the original 1.7 tinware was the only way to go and making up a set of "conversion" tin mounted to the van to get the engine bay sealed.. When it was done, it went very well.. but it was a lot of time to do properly..

Just an update....after looking at the engine yesterday and serching for some info today, its actually an AP code engine which according to various sources says its an 1800 type 4 out for a bus around 1974/5 ish.
Would this make any difference?
Thanks

Nope..
All 1.7/1.8/2.0 from Bay window/411/412/914 are different..
the basic case may well be made to fit.. but tinware and head differences are gonna prevent an easy swap..
The T25 1.6CT is a boat anchor and shares nothing with the type 4 engines.. the 2.0L was fitted to the last of the Bay windows but with different tin...
Rebiuld your old engine or buy a correct running one.... unless you really want a challenge..
