Hi. Am hoping some one can help. I have a 1988 T25 water cooled. I have just had a recon engine fitted by a friend. He has asked me to post a problem he is having at the final hurdle. I hope I explain this correctly.......

In the engine he is struggling with wiring.....

We have 1 thick red wire spurred off to a black wire......
Another black wire with another spur, both we think go to the carburettor......
There seems to be an extra female connector that has ignition live.....
Can anyone help use work out where these wires go? A wiring chart to the carburettor and manifold heater would be fantastic.

The engine does start but seems to miss fire when it warms up.

Anyone with any ideas I look forward to hearing from you. We are so close to getting Billy back on the road.

I will try to help, but others will be along soon. I don't have a picture, though I know there are some on here, E D I T = see my last line below.

There are three live connectors on the carb and it is important to get them the right way round. It won't damage owt if you get it wrong but the engine will be harder to start and won't tick over correctly (if at all).

One connector goes to the base of the carb and operates a heating element to aid cold starting (the least important one).
Another connector goes to the electrical element in the choke assembly.
The above two wire only supply current when the engine is cold. This in turn is controlled by a temperature operated switch on the side of the thermostat housing (the other similar thing on that housing is for the actual temperature gauge on the dashboard).

A third wire, which stays live all the time the ign is on, goes to the solenoid on the front of the carb, the function of that is to kill the supply of fuel to the idle jet when the ign is turned off ("anti run on valve" as it is sometimes called).

Folks sometimes get the choke heater wire and the anti run on valve wire muddled up, and as one goes live on turning on, and the other "dies" after the engine warms up, you get the heater element and the anti run on valve working the exact opposite to the way they should
