Is 540KG per wheel enough

I've been looking for a replacement alloy to match my existing but nothings turned up. From some reasonably priced wheels as a stop gap - right dimensions but weight load is 540kg max. Do you think that's enough?

Hi,

540kg x4 = 2180kg, I'm certain if you look at the weight plate on your van it will be between 2340kg & 2400kg

So those tyres won't cope with the possible load and be unsuitable for the purpose to which they are being put.

Cheers
Simon

In my instruction manual the recommended tyre load rating is given as at least 97, i.e. 730kg per wheel.

I'll leave it to you to decide whether it is sensible to use an alloy wheel with a max load that's only two thirds of the recommended tyre load rating. I suspect you already know the answer.

If you've got an overloaded tyre, you're just going to wear it very quickly. But with a wheel, that won't happen. It might be fine, it might decide that today is going to be the day the fatigue in the overloaded metal is too much. And, if ever the wheel or tyre DOES give up the unequal fight, you can bet it'll do it when the loading is heaviest. When you overcook a bend, or have to slam the anchors on a bit hard. Just when you LEAST want the wheel to go ping, in other words.

But it's your call.

I wouldn't. Even as a stopgap. Your insurance (technically) will be invalid too.

Thanks. Giving them a miss. too lightweight-probably why the last alloy bent as well. Will keep an eye out for some affordable merc 15 wheels

Unless you're dead set on alloys, you could fit something more robust like a steel merc wheels and have them blasted and coated. Finish is up to you. Slowcoach and I favour big wheels and tyres - also makes scrabbling underneath far easier.

They suit your van which has a tougher look. I prefer alloys on my Autosleeper. If I ever have the money I'll get a syncro camper and get those wheels
