Hi,
Does anyone have any recommendations for whether I should go with 'pop top part' or 'sgs engineering' for my devon roof struts.
It looks as though I can get more of the stuff from pop top parts but the the struts work out at about £20 ish for the set of 4.
Any experiences?
Cheers
Josh

Right so I gave sgs a call for struts and they require the part number off my existing struts to remake them. Mine look like aftermarket ones and may not even be the right ones, plus there are no actual numbers on them just soggy illegible labels. Does anyone with a 1981 devon pop top (side opening) know what struts it uses?
Cheers

My hinges are snapped so I would rather not open her up, but if you need it i'll do it carefully!

Yup just like that. If you could it'd be great but please don't if it's going to damage it.
The code should be a long set of numbers and letters apparently.

okay, i'll give it a day or two; if no-one else can help I will gently open her up.
Really need to order some new ones!

The sgs part number is gsc2653 and they have them listed as being for a viking roof this is what they supplied me for the vertical struts after i gave them all the details of my old struts. The horizontal struts are the same dimensions but 300n rated. My roof was removed from an Aircooled metal vent devon so should be the same as yours.

Hi, ankhs a lot for that. I phoned em and they said vertical 400n and horizontal 250n does that sound right? They said eh can make them to 300n but the spec is 250. Uploading pics of my roof now to confirm its the same as yours. Please ignore the grime, I cannot get it to stay up to clean it properly.

Link won't work so will have to do it like this.
Please confirm.

That looks the same as mine. The struts should be mounted on m10 studs. Im not entirely sure the struts on mine were original however after replacing just the vertical struts the roof is working perfectly. I would suggest supporting the roof with a length of wood and repairing that hinge before fitting the new struts as closing the roof takes a good tug.

Hi,
I got the struts from SGS but am having a mare trying to fit them. Even with the roof at max it isn't high enough for the strut. Any ideas? I have tried a ratchet strap aswell but hasn't worked as yet.
Cheers
