Hi, i'm about to put Betsy, our 'new' 1980 Westy in for an appliances check & service.
The original Stove, Fridge, heater and sink have been all been turned off and unused for 10 years.
Certainly want the stove and sink running and safe. Going to ignore the heater.

But what about the 35 yr old fridge?
The fridge takes up a lot of space and may need work. Is it worth keeping and/or spending money on?
We don't really need it so we could remove it and have an extra cupboard but will this reduce Betsy's value (we will be upgrading soon-ish)?

Thanks for any advice as i'm wallowing in newbie confusion.

I gave away a non-functioning fridge on this site not so long ago, and had a number of people after it, so clearly they can be resurrected.

id get it working whether you use it or not, especially if your thinking of selling soon

There's are lot of info available online to help you get the fridge working. Mine didn't light at all but after following a few threads on the samba it worked well enough.

Have you plugged it in yet to see if it works? It will probably take a couple of hours to cool down. Connect the electric hook up pop a thermometer in there and see what happens. If it doesn't work follow the advice above!
PS you will always need a fridge when camping!

Its gas powered and i read that they are notoriously unreliable so was thinking a cool box would be just fine for us anyway.
And the gas systems are so old they concern me. Guess i will see what the gas safety check shows up.

Unreliable? Says who? Absorption fridges are the most reliable fridges you can get!!! No moving parts.
Usually gas/12v/230v. Sometimes just gas/12v.

Thanks, that makes me feel better about spending the money on the inspection at least and maybe getting it working too.

So what was wrong with it? Good to share the answer so that others might benefit from the solution.

Going by the first post it hadn't been tried to start with! Just turned off.
