Evening gents,

I'm new to this forum so just thought I'd introduce myself. Ive also got a question I wondered if anybody could help me with.

Ive just finished doing a fair amount of welding/ paintwork on my sisters '89 diesel T25. Im at the stage now where I'm refitting the rear side glass and also the sliding door glass. It's a twin sliding door Caravelle.

Anyway I took the glass out myself a good while back, but I'm having a problem with the seals. This will sound stupid, but each of the seals seem too short for glass?! I'm trying to think back to when I took the glass out, and I'm searching through my box of bits for some sort of insert or trim pieces, to no avail.

Looking through the Just Campers catalogue I've noticed that the van probably didn't come with glass originally due to the profile of the seals and the fact the glass opening are 'flush'. I'm sure I didn't remove any pices of trim from the seals before removal, just the insert from the centre.

Please excuse my ignorance as this is the first T25 I've worked on.

Those seals are what's used on converted panel vans. They do have an insert that fits into that slot that runs the length of it. That seal in the picture can't be off the glass you have it on as it should meet in the middle. Unless there is some reason that it didn't. Maybe someone will be along to suggest why. I would say it's the wrong seal as in length. If the seals are good then you need new inserts. If you welded the window apertures then that suggests to me the seals are shot and I would buy new. If metal mickey posts in this or you can contact him through p.m. I think he sells good seals.

Thanks for that . The seal pictured is the one that was fitted for that glass. I've no idea why but it seems for some reason the person who did the conversion cut the seals too short? I have the insert to go inside the seal but cannot understand why the ends of the seal don't 'butt up'.

Does it fit the aperture? Just a thought, but I've seen some vans with different sized windows. Sometimes the window opposite the sliding door is a different length. Are both windows out? Are the seals mixed up? I'm just speculating.

The seal? No, the gap is the same as pictured around the glass.

cos the muppet that fitted them originally stretcherd them and over time they have shrank back especially as they have been removed , takes a while but they do ,
also i wont be a velle as velles had factory glass and as said yours are van conversions,
oh and how about some pickies of the work before during and after as threads are a bit dull at the moment

Didn't think of shrinkage. Looks like new seals then. You the man

Ahh, I see. Thanks gents, isn't it crazy how the smallest thing can almost bring a build to a standstill!

Any recommendations on where to get hold of a new roll of seal? Just Kampers seems a little expensive, I'm thinking maybe measure up the glass and panel and order from here; http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/shopping.a ... rtmentId=4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As for pics of the van, I have a few but haven't really taken shots at every point of the repair. Either way have a nose below

I got my last lot from seals direct, but I think mm sells them?? ^^^^^

Yea I'm checking on there now but they don't seem to have a seal with the correct web to the originals. They measure up around 11mm

Done some good work there, nice one get in touch with MM re seals.

Buy them from Metal Mickey
They are the right ones & I use them often on all the vans I restore that need them
He will tell you where to buy any other seals too.( Chris VW Emporium)
Its easier to ask people who restore them all the time for a living

Thanks mate. Ive had another look and I think that 'wr63' on here; http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/shopping.a ... rtmentId=4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is the correct seal. I think I may have mis-measured the web as the old seal is stretched open.
