Propex decided to burn out today. Not sure where (will pull it out at the weekend) but interior filled up with smoke that smelt distinctly electrical. Fan?

Cripes!! Morbidly looking forward to the autopsy pics!!

Did it eventually blow the fuse?? Assume gas valve closed off ok??

(Also I'd have thought it might be interesting reading for those folks with Propex systems that are triggered by timers or remotes!!) I'd also assume that the chaps at Propex might be interested in seeing what happened?

Usually fan stuck due to non use each month like Eberspächers/Webastos I should think. Right when you need it most.

I guess it depends if you (or anybody else) sleeps in the van with it on and your confidance in repairing it safely.
hopefully something simple, they may know if it's a known fault.
out of interest what model/age?

Watching

Did it turn itself off (or blow a fuse) or did you have turn it off ?

I had to fit a new fan motor to mine a couple of years ago. Note = when disassembling take careful note of the orientation of the fan. It is all too easy to fit it back on the wrong way around. It still "blows" but not correctly and this causes a lack of air to the burner, in turn causing the flame sensor to trip the gas valve to off. Ask me how I know

Also the motors bearings are a weird "self aligning" type that are spot welded in place, making replacement pretty impossible and a new motor would be required. The side benefit is the newer style motor is quieter and draws a bit less current.

Propex are very good to deal with. This is the guy who helped me = Richard Kitchener richard.kitchener@propexheatsource.co.uk

Hard to tell if it turned itself off. I was a bit freaked out by all the smoke and as the engine was running and I'd just turned out of a sideroad, it was hard to listen to be honest. Pulled over, let all the burt plastic smell/smoke out and that was that. Will look over weekend and see what blew or burnt out.

Just a bit peeved that its this time of year. Still, I'm sure its sortable :D

I found propex to be really helpful and the relacement burner repair on my 2000 was only £82 inc return shipping warranted, 24 hour turnaround too, the main part was about 30% of total bill

Thats encouraging Aidan. I shall dig in with confidence. :D

Whatever burnt out will be fairly obvious judging by the smoke

Unless you have the same fault (unlikely), even if I did send it in, it won't help you determine how much yours might cost. They take each one on its merits.
