Engine Revving High from start up

Hi

New to this forum & VW air cooled engines, so go easy :D

I have just bought a 1981 2.0 petrol air cooled T25 Westfalia Joker Poptop.

The starter motor was playing up, so I removed it to clean it all up, to get to the top bolt I had to remove the air cleaner from the engine bay, did the job put it all back together & started up, but now the engine is revving very high on tick over & I mean high, any ideas what I could have done?

I only bought the van yesterday & I did not see it start up from cold, so this is the first time I have started it from cold, could it be the choke?

Cheers

Tony

If you've not seen it running from cold it could either be you've plugged a vac hose on wrong, or it needs setting up...

Yeah looking at some stuff on here and YouTube looks as if the fast idle is not adjusted right, will investigate a bit more at the weekend

Check that the accelerator cable, both where it enters engine bay and at cam on carb is sitting in properly. tis possible the outer cable isn't sitting on the relevant recesses correctly
