ignition problem

can anyone help after returning to my van today I put the key in the ignition and turned it but nothing happened the lights on the van worked ok but starter motor didn't make a sound ,after having a play around with battery the van jumped into life I don't know if its the battery which is in good condition or the ignition barrel .the steering lock doesn't work properly

Ignition switch is a common fault but could also be a problem with connections elsewhere.
Need to monitor it and see what happens.
Well worth getting underneath and cleaning up your starter motor connections, disconnect the battery first.
also clean up battery connections and earth to the body by the battery and the many earth connections by the fusebox.
There is also a major earth connecton to the gear box that should be checked.

Yep ignition switches fail and are cheap to replace before worrying about more difficult stuff.

its a 1987 caravelle and thanks for your help only had her for two weeks

beware of some cheap and nasty parts out there, these two suppliers may not be the cheapest but they won't sell you rubbish
