So long as you've got a good spread of weight through the roof bars/roof rack and a good ladder you'll be ok. Seen a lot on landys they do a really good one that fold out and is huge!

Campervanculture.com are a UK agent for http://www.frontrunner.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; in South Africa. We mainly sell to the overland market outside the CVC website but if anyone wants really decent kit from the best roof tents available just throw me a PM. We have access to stock here in the UK and I will work something out to 80-90 members

But you'd still be stooping whilst cooking the bacon and eggs and getting dressed.

The wind whistling between the roof of the van, and the tent base at 60-70mph might also be pretty annoying.

Too expensive to take seriously IMO, although a cool novelty item for infrequent usage, by tin-top owners. But then bolting it on and off the van would be a bind.

I think the Martin Walter company got it just about right in the 1890's with his first Dormobile roofs on carriages, which have been copied ever since by plenty of converters of camper vans.

A proper pop up roof system, or a tent strapped to your roof rack?

I know which one I'd choose.
