Just bought a t25 1986 1.9dg
Fuel gauge is not working , recently just stopped according
To previous owner .
Can someone help please with detailed info to
Test the gauge etc

do you have a haynes?

No sorry

detailed information and pictures in the haynes manual ...if you decide to get one they are very usefull
suffice to say there are two connectors to the sender, I suppose you have cleaned these up and still no luck?

OK well start at the easy end and make sure the wire contacts at the gauge (in the instrument binnacle) are in good order.
Pin 7 on the dash multiplug Lilac + Blk (Fuel Gauge sender)

Also worth just removing and reconnecting the dash multiplug first could just be a bad connection there and checking the earth points behind the glove box which rust up due to windscreen leaks above.


If you ground pin 7 on the dash multiplug Lilac + Blk (Fuel Gauge sender) you will expect to see the guage go to full ( obviously it needs to be plugged in and the ignition on) if it does not then suspect the guage , if it does then its the sender or its wiring.

You can probaly get to this multiplug without removing the dash by looking up under the dash on the RHS, you can just poke a thin wire into pin 7 and then short to earth.

Using the search I also found this nugget

I had a thought that the circuit board might be the issue so I bypassed it and attached the wires directly from the multiplug and to the fuel gauge - this appears to now work!

Next if that doesn't cure it you will have to consider whether you can competently remove the fuel tank.
