Alternator question

Replacing my alternator. This is my current one.

Would this be the correct replacement? It mentions bolt on connectors

For an '88 Westy? 2.1?

I'd have thought you'd have a 90A, not a 65A - our '88 Westy certainly has.

TBH, if it wasn't for the out-of-stock, I'd be upgrading anyway for a tenner, even if it was a 65A on there now.

As for the connectors - have a quick peer round the back, you'll see if they're bolt-on rather than clipped. Not the end of the world to change, if necessary, though.

Our 1.6TD JX Westy came with a 65A alternator.

Only on a cold, damp morning, with both batteries taking full charge, all four full-beam headlights and wipers on, injection needing power, heater fan on full...

Seriously, it'll make less electrickery. Whether that's an issue depends on how hard you're consuming it. An electronic fuel-injection camper with two batteries to charge is going to take about as much as any of these vans will. But 90A is a fairly beefy output - even 65A is fairly chunky. I've just chucked a new alternator on my Landy - upgrading it from 35A to 45A in the process...

Clift - a diesel takes more juice to glow and spin on the starter, but less when it's actually running. So a smaller alternator but beefier battery makes some sense.

Looks like a 90amp one that is fitted. Genuine VAG .... it might be worth having your own refurbed.
I had mine done a couple of years ago....new rear casing, bearings, rotor, regulator pack...cost a fair wack but it came back looking like new.
Every town tends to have at least one alternator/starter motor reconditioner.

I'll be trading in I think. Or refurbing and selling on.

Am I right in saying this would be the correct one to get? Was gonna check chassis number tonight just in case.

This might sound a silly question, but why pay VWH £160 (+£30 exchange) and wait for it to come back in stock, when BW want £110 outright (but are also out of stock)? OK, so BW don't state a supplier - tbh, I'm not convinced that's a great issue, not least because BW won't sell chod, but because even the outright Bosch-branded-and-boxed alternator I had earlier this year for the Peugeot was a Slovenian rebuild.

On a more practical level, the claimed VW part numbers differ between the two suppliers. The BW part number is the same as on

I'm confused re the parts numbers. I'm going to double check against chassis number tonight either way.

Just remember to take the pully wheel off your original before you drive away from VWH. New alternators often come with a different pully as shown in the advert.

Can anyone decipher my chassis number from this (from under the fuse box)? And whether mine is good for this spec:

"T25 from Chassis 24-F-080 001>> Engine codes DF, DG, DH, GW, DJ T4 Engine Fitment Codes and Year Range AAC 2.0 Petrol 09/90-12/95"
