Thought I would share my solution to the rounded speedo drive hole problem;
Remove grease cap and place on solid surface inside up (greasy side), with a large centre punch or similar, centre punch midway along each of the 4 sides a few millimeters in from the cable hole edge, trial fit cable end and redo if necessary. I went a bit too far and had to slightly open out hole to get cable in. Takes about a minute once you've got your grease cap off. Sorry didn't take any photos.
How successful I suppose will depend on how worn your hole is, mine was pretty bad, but the fit is now snug so fairly confident it will last a few years at least.
Hope this helps someone else
Cheers Phil

Been doing this for years (even with bugs) and I've mentioned it on here before. It does tend to thin the metal a bit though. Can sometimes just amount to temporary cure.

Don't laugh my ex mechanic did that it wasn't until he had to replace the wheel bearings he realised that it was not such a good idea, just a pity I didn't heed the warning signs then?

Never thought of checking to see if something similar had been posted before, with all the knowledge on here should have known it would have ready been done. Much better repair than my previous efforts with various types of glue although thick superglue did last all the way from Morocco back to UK.

I am with Metalmick8y - weld up hole, drill and file square with a needle file - that way there is a larger surface area for the cable to bear against rather than the thin metal that it starts with.
