I have a 1989 high top that needs a new 'gate.
Got the chance of one off a 1983 model.

Will it fit?

Cheers

if it's got an "outy" lock button on then NO, if it's got an "inny" lock button then YES

Bringing an old thread back to the top. Are early tailgates structurally different to the later versions or is it 'just' a case of changing the lock mechanism? Only asking as I've found a solid (unglazed) tailgate off an '82 and would like to fit it to my '85

Thanks in advance for your advice

excluding wash/wipe,central locking etc then they all fit each other ,you just need to change out the locks

Hells bells, where did you find an unglazed tailgate?

Here in Froggyland there's no great demand for them so not too difficult to find. Are they sought after in the UK?

Sought after by me - VERY MUCH, as a tradesman, I carry my tools in the rear and would like the additional security of a windowless door. If I had one of those, I'd sort out my locks so that they were more difficult to undo, currently a spoon will permit entry!!!
