So what has happened here:

I'm still very much finding out about the mechanics of my new van... So many things to break down! Does this need to a garage to be fixed or is it an easy fix? Also how OK is it to drive with something dangling off like this?

Help much appreciated :-)

I dont know for certain as I dont have any on mine - but by the looks of it that is the 'tin ware' to protect your push rods. I would think that would be an easy fix as it just needs fixing back into position

experts will be along soon

WHS ^^^

Its the tinware that covers the push-rods. Its normally held on by four screws but the holes corrode out or the tin splits and the piece ends up missing in action. You should be able to fix it yourself if the screw holes are ok. Don't drive with it like that because it probably won't still be there when you arrive where you're going.

My van had that piece missing for over a year so don't worry about taking it off completely if you can't secure it with a couple of new screws.
