A throttle question

This might sound like a silly question but never owning a 2.0 cu bus before im unsure......
So with the engine off & if the throttle pedal is totally pressed to the floor (by the mrs) should i still be able to open the throttle even more manually by pushing the linked forward in the engine bay ?
Ive taken the slack out of the cable so i know that should be ok.....

to set the throttle you need to undo the cable holder in the engine bay, have someone press the throttle pedal to the floor and then re-attach the cable holder with the carbs being full open.

I've got the same issue as you and haven't yet had a chance to do this but found it on one of the posts the other night, I don't see how it will work because surely the cable won't then let the carbs close properly?

Will try it tomorrow and post up my findings if you don't beat me to it :ok

Mmm, that seems like it might work Cheeky v...but i can't see how the linkage can fully return ? When or if the rain stops i'll give it a go.....thanks for the replys....

I would have thought the other way myself, pull cable through so pedal is fully up and then tighten with carbs closed.

Its a bit of both. Certainly throttle should be fully open with foot to floor but not with so much tension (as can happen if you just set up for closed throttle) that cable eventually goes 'twang' or becomes detached.

Needs both essentially - to fully return and to open fully. Sometimes a worn/loose pedal makes this hard to do though.

CovKid, what is it that wears/needs replacing on the pedal? I know there are some bellows at the pedal end and mine arn't in the best condition but they are still there

I retensioned my throttle cable recently, I can defo get a bit more oomph now. Mine is 1.9 petrol, but all I did was weight pedal to the floor, manually open the carb butterfly as far as it would go (then held open with a cable tie), and pull through slack at pedal and retighten. Taking O/S/F indicator out gives access and sight of what you are doing. Hardest part is getting tools onto the pinch bolt. HTH, Bri

Thread resurrection time.

My cable went "ping" this morning. Is it easier to route front to back or back to front? I had a quick look and the cable has broken above the fuel tank. Can the new cable be routed from the middle? There looks like a join in the conduit half way between the wheels that could be used to feed the cable in both directions.
