replacing early diesel radiator with later type

I asked this a while back, but was buried in another thread and got no response so thought i'd start a new thread - if I wanted to change my (rare as hen's teeth) early diesel radiator for the later type, would it go straight in, or are the brackets etc. different? I know the hoses at the radiator end would need changing, but want to overhaul all the cooling system eventually.

Just for the record, my Tdi runs really cool (too cool without the thermostat) at the moment with new waterpump, even fully loaded up steep hills, so my rad is currently fine, just noticed how difficult/expensive it is to get hold of an early diesel rad, so this is more of a future-proofing exercise.

Bump! Nobody knows? :D

OK, maybe i'll just have to find someone with a later type who will let me remove their grilles and spare wheel and have a poke around!
