Camper conversions & insurance

Morning All,

I'm new so please forgive my naivety, I'm currently looking at buying a T25 camper so I can join the fun.
I am going to view a transporter camper conversion. I have just got a 'Compare the market' insurance quote & once I added the modifications ie. The conversion the quote came back twice the amount of the standard van.
Could anyone please point me in the direction of any insurer who specialises in campers & van conversions or would it be standard practice to insure the vehicle as transporter?
Reading forums it would be in my interest to reclassify the transporter as a motor home, has anyone got recent experience of doing such a thing?!?

If anyone has a 4 berth T25 for sale in the south I'll be interested to hear from them :)

Most T25 campers will already be classified as a motorhome for insurance purposes, so you should look at motorhome insurers - also with T25's being at least two decades old and some of them three decades old they qualify for limited mileage/ second car classic insurance policies.

Popular brokers for this type of insurance are Glynwoods (search on here for a contact) and 2gether insurance. You will likely end up with a policy from HIC.

Most of the mainstream insurers won't touch a T25, especially if you've got a non-standard engine.

Hope that helps!

Many thanks to you all, my mind is now at ease knowing there are specialist companies out there. I've had a promising rough quote from Adrian Flux so it's all goooood.
Cheers :ok

This thread caught my eye, as I'm on the verge of adding a pop-top to my Caravelle. Apart from letting the company know, is this likely to cause me any insurance problems? Must have been done a hundred times....

Just bought our first T25 three weeks ago. We tried lots of insurers, including Just Kampers, but went for Lifesure as they were a lot cheaper. They specialise in campers and motor homes, asked for lots of detail about the van and conversion, and really seemed to know their stuff. They were recommended by several of our friends who have Mazda Bongos insured with them ( who I have very smugly shown off my lovely bus to - no comparison!)
