Dip Stick Guide

Iv been removing some coolant pipes recently for repair and i have noticed the tube that guides the dipstick into the engine is not actually attached to the engine. Im worried i have damaged it? or is it meant to just float around?

What engine?
The guide on my 2.1dj is a push fit (with a sealing ring) to the engine and is attached to the alternator bracket.
Mine recently broke where is pushes in (due to the alternator rattling around)
Replacement from Brickwerks.

So how did you go about removing the snapped off section? i belive its a 1.9 DG engine.

it pushes into the block with a sealing ring
use an "easy out" or drill tap to pull it back out

Or a self tapping screw.
On mine it was peeing oil, so I put a small cork in it as a temp fix.
When I pulled the cork out, the bottom of the guide came out too.
It isnt a tight fit.

How do i work out the exact model of my engine? Is it written on the block somewhere?

put your engine type in your signature.. saves a lot of questions
A petrol engine has the number under the breather tower facing the rear

This is the only number i could find. I did a quick google but didnt find anything ... am i looking in the complete wrong place?

OK
You have a VW replacement engine.
So it's likley a DG 1.9
The original code will be in the service book, or on a sticker under the steering wheel on the crossmember

Going back to your first post, is the tube actually broken or do you just need a new sealing ring?

Im pretty sure its broken right at the point where it enters the engine block. I can pull out the internal part and can see that it has sheared at some point.

Right. If you cannot find a replacement elsewhere, send a message to Brickwerks to find out when they are likely to get more in stock.
