Clicking relay

Driving home from camping today heard a clicking sound from glove box. Turned out it was a relay. Took it out and checked which it was - supposed to be side lights, but then indicators wouldn't work. The indicator lamp lit up on dash, but didn't flash - neither did the indicators themselves. Useless with electrics - is it a simple case of replacing relay or is there something more sinister lurking maybe? Any advice greatly appreciated. Cheers

If its a tall relay its indicator or hazard relay. Check fuses and carefully clean up earth crown. If its still troublesome replace relay but its probably bad earth or loose wire.

In my experience, indicator circuits are THE toughest ones to diagnose if theres a fault. They're a right pig as they defy any sort of logic sometimes. All you can do is check earths carefully and if its an early fusebox, physically take them out and check them carefully - a hairline crack in one of them will cause that. I once spent a frustrating two hours swapping indicator stalks and it was simply a damaged fuse that you couldn't see without removing it.

Electrics worry me normally let alone the ones in this van lol!

I remember the last time I drove at night the left stalk jamming a bit when trying to dip headlights, and as that's the same stalk as indicators I wonder if something's also not right that end? I think I will talk nicely to a mate who teaches motor mechanics at the college - he's also into his old Land Rovers so may be ok with old electrics!

Would be lovely to get all old electrics replaced, but does a new wiring loom exist for these? Or would something have to be custom made? I remember last time I looked at the ribbon in the top of the dash it looked like it had seen better days.
