Starting on choke

When I start my van (1.9 petrol pierburg 2e3) it has started to rev so high I have to turn it off! It revs very very high.

Recently rebuilt carb a few months ago with a brickwerks kit and it has ran fabulous since, but I noticed that the revs were staying high when I take my foot off the accelerator a few weeks ago.

I have always pumped the pedal once or twice slowly, but today from cold it started ok with just a little rev. I was trying to avoid the redline revving!

1) should I be pressing the pedal to "switch on" the automatic choke? Not sure where I learned this but I am sure it's the right method.

2) can anyone suggest if there is anything that needs oiled or greased on the carb. It occurred to me that what was previously very oily went back together almost squeaky clean...maybe a spindle or spring is sticking?

(once engine is up to temp, all is good btw)

Sounds like the accelerator cable isn't returning to its stop properly.

Yeah I thought about that, but totally goes away when warmed up. That's why I assumed it was a choke issue?

Cheers Kev, will do, what does it look like?

As I side question, what part if the carb is the "choke pull down unit" does that refer to the whole choke mechanism or part of it?

I have 3 in one, wd40 and WD silicone spray, what would be the preferred lube?

Hi guys this hasn't got better or gone away

I have lubricated everything I can, all springs and parts that appear to move. I did notice that the lever at the bottom of the accelerator pump diagram (11 on the wiki diagram) returned slowly after the bit that pushes the lever returns (fast idle mechanism?)

It has got steadily worse and feels like a sticking accelerator cable, but I have ruled that out. The pedal springs straight back when I let go if it. Everything seems to be moving freely at the other end of the cable.

Any suggestions?
