I have the same engine and box and mine always ran above the led up to 3/4 That seemed to be normal, so dont worry, but I now run with an 80 degree stat and I have removed the stock autobox cooler (which puts heat into the coolant) and fitted a 20 row air/oil cooler instead. Now when I'm moving she runs dead on the LED in the centre however if I tickover in traffic or move slowly in town she will gradually heat up to the 3/4 mark when the 1st speed fan comes on. I am planning to fit a fan switch overide on the dash so that I can turn the fan on manually in these situations before she gets very hot. So Make sure your fans run fit an 80 degree stat and dont panic. (PS i dont know how much a brikwerks 80 stat is but the one for the golf vr6 is an 80 and it fits!!! I paid 9.95 for mine)

There are not many reasons why an engine gets too hot.
Lack of coolant circulating through the engine and radiator.
Lack of cooling by the radiator.
As you can see the radiator features in both of these reasons.
Reasons why coolant does not flow freely through the cooling system, are again few.
Trapped air
Sludge in the radiator/pipes
Thermostat not opening correctly
Poor coolant pump function.

The engine may not be getting too hot? I ended up using an infra red thermometer on mine to confirm that 3/4 on the gauge is only 95 degrees leaving the engine. At this point my fan comes on and it never gets much hotter. On the centre Led on mine is around 83-85 degrees which is the temperature it runs at with the 80 degree stat in. strangely the 80 degree stat is not fully open at 83 degrees but it is by 86/87.(tested in a saucepan)
