rythmic tapping under braking (sometimes)

I Hope someone can shed some light for me on this one , under braking occasionally , when coming to a stop only, I hear a rhythmic clonk/tapping noise - I have ruled out front and rear brakes , front wheel bearings and loose driveshaft/cv bolts - I can't find any loose bodywork or the like either. Its really hard to determine exactly where the noise is coming from but it sounds like left hand side , most of the time I think its from the rear but can't be 100% sure.

My current theory is to change the CV joints at the rear , other than that possibly rear bearings or some other suspension related bush ? anyone have a rough plan of action , all my bushes etc. are fairly old and I intend to go around replacing them all , just don't have a specific order in mind at the moment and can't afford to replace them all at once due to other issues taking finances up , such as the self destructing fuel pumps.

Thanks

tim

Nice cheap option to start with is above , strip them down , both ends , clean and re grease. Did mine earlier in the year just for the hell of it and took maybe 2 hrs for both sides.
I also had a similar prob to yours which only occurred under braking , cured by new discs and caliper overhaul and new pads ( not so cheap option ) :ok

Sounds like a plan , thanks fellas :)

I eliminated brakes by upgrading to porka calipers - really expensive option !!
