Hi,

My westie roof kind of absorbs moisture. It is an 83 and when I bought it there was loads of moss on it. I think the moss would have destroyed the waterproofness somewhat.

I am thinking about giving it a new coat of resin. Does anyone know what sort of resin to use or is there anyone in the london area you can recomend to do the job. If so do you know how much it would cost?

The fibreglass-absorbing-moisture syndrome is common on boats, it`s called osmosis. If you do a search for that on boat sites you can learn plenty on the treatment of it. I would think if you can get it dry and then power-washed off and treated with a fugicide first (Jeyes Fluid works wonders on green stuff, available from garden centres etc, stinks though), then a nice coat of either marine paint (expensive `coz it says "boat" on the tin) or polyurethane paint (not Dulux non-drip gloss ) then that would work. You need to try and get it dried out first, which unless you can get it inside for a few days in a warm area, could proove tricky at this time of year

I painted my boat (wood) using a polyurethane floor paint (I kid you not ), a lot cheaper than marine poly, and as it doesn`t sit in the water most of the time (trailer), it`s fine. The finish is superb, I used a foam brush system, called Jennybrush (available from Ebay only), you get a foam roller to cover quickly, then use a 3" foam brush to lay it off, it removes all brush-strokes and the finish is like glass. My mate saw it and thought the boat was made of plastic it`s that good

Excellent. I shall give that a try. you're right though this time of year it is goes to be hard to get it dry...
