Oil Light on but dim

The oil light on my friends petrol watercooled van stays on but dimly whilst driving, the oil pressure switch has been changed and there is nothing wrong with the oil pressure. Anyone any ideas, last resort will be putting tape on the instrument dial to hide it.
thanks
Simon

Mine does similar but only once every now and again. There is nothing wrong with either pressure or switch and despite it giving me a dicky fit the first time it happened (as indeed did the buzzer the first time I heard one of those) there appears to be nothing wrong and I have really come to the conclusion that there is a wire slightly amiss behind the clocks. Sorry I couldnt have given you a solution but at least you know that you are not on your own, cheers John.

sounds like a shagged pressure switch partially earthing out. Like the good people have said, change them - they're dirt cheap.

I wouldn't cover up the oil light. If you have a problem and your engine really does have no oil pressure, you will ruin your engine very quickly as a result.
This faint glow is usually caused by the 2nd oil pressure sender either not being connected or the sender being faulty. If you have changed one of them search out the other and replace.
