Hello all. Could I ask some advice regarding relays on my 2.0 Aircooled 82 van. Following a rebuild I am having trouble with some electrics. The lights, brake and reverse lights work however indicators, hazards and window wipers are not. Having checked the fuses they are fine, oddly I have no relays attached to the back of the fuse board. There is wiring to two slots on the relay board and I'm assuming there should be at least two relays in place and that this is the cause of my problems. I'm no expert as is evident I just cannot for the life of me recall removing any relays.
So my questions are- should I have relays in this position on this van?
What relays should I buy to put in place?

You should have these two relays fitted.

Cheers Bigherb any ideas where I might get those little fellas from buddy? Ìs it going to be a high street or Internet job? And do you know the part numbers?

Indicator relay is standard 3 pin electronic. VW part number 1H0 953 227

Relief relay is 141 951 253B up to 1984 and 171 906 383 from 1984

Awesome mate. Thankyou. One last stupid question- what does the relief one control? Is that why wipers aren't working?

yes it switches off the wipers and other circuits when you are cranking the engine.
