To my knowledge you can ONLY apply it with a spray gun, but you need different nozzles for the bigger stuff and you have to constantly agitate to ensure even coverage. Not done any since the very early 80s when flip-flop paint, crackle-finish etc had all already run their course.

Big, porno style, flakes can be added by simply throwing them up in the air over the freshly paint parts/area.
