Whenb flushing coolant system, do I need to flush heater hoses and if so how?

You could do that yes.
Put heater on hot that opens the valve.
Remove the pipes at the engine end, not hard to find they are the one inch or so front to back rubber pipes, follow them under the van.
Stick a hose in one end and watch other end until it runs clear, then do it in reverse.

Thanks Paul, I now know what will be doing Saturday morning!

Flushed them out and quite a lot of stuff came out _ better out than in! Have filled the bus up again, bled the system and taken it on a tentative couple of miles and then burping the radiator when we got back so hopefully it might be fixed. Fingers are crossed. Many thanks for the input
