Just bought a new Dalek cap from JK but it doesn't quack when I blow through it - is it a duff one? should I return it or fit it anyway?

You can get these off the shelf at GSF and ECP for about a fiver. They would get you back on the road. They list them as a radiator cap! Means you wont have to wait for the post if one of them has a store near you. Also avaialble from your local VW franchise i think.

Just be careful which cap you order....there is an awful lot of poor quality caps on sale and with such a mission critical part it really does pay to get a quality replacement.

Read what Simon has to say about them:

Definately some poor ones around although the one I got from GSF was fine. Always best to test to see if it will attract ducks before you leave, but not been disappointed to date. With something as important as that I'd rather buy from somewhere its not a problem to exchange quickly (ideally the same day) rather than mail order which can slow down the work, leave you offroad and out of pocket on postage, so for that reason I buy locally if the item HAS to work. Brickwerks ones sound but the GSF ones are ok too.

No idea if JK ones are inherently bad or you were just unlucky, but as you can't test something on a website, be careful what you buy.

Was handy when one of our members cap gave up the ghost in Chester not long back.I lent them my spare. And T.B.H. it hardly takes up as much room as a starter.:-)

Spare alternator, spare battery (well you never know), spare fuel tank, held on to roof with bunjees, second-hand waterpump tucked under passenger seat. Right, lets go......

Seriously though, spare quacker, rotor and dizzy cap worth carrying. :D

Got a replacement at Brikwerks _ quacks most beautifully;-) fitted and flushed out heater hoses etc ! Have filled the bus up again, bled the system and taken it on a tentative couple of miles and burping the radiator when we got back so hopefully it might be fixed. Fingers are crossed. Many thanks for the input guys
