How do I tighten temp sensor

Have ordered a new temp sensor (for gauge) but want to tighten existing one in the meantime - its dripping and I dont want it to fully drain.
Have located sensor, but cant see a nut to tighten. It looks completely round / smooth.
So, how do I tighten it? Is there a nut there somewhere?

It's held in with a sprung clip. There is also a rubber "o" ring that goes over the sensor that stops it from leaking . They are a couple of pounds from brickwerks.

Are you saying there's nothing to tighten?
Once spring clip is off, does it just pull out?

Yep. It should just pull out with the o ring attached.

The 'O' ring slips over the silver bit at the bottom and then the sensor is pushed into the housing (best to put a bit of Vaseline on the seal) the seal is slightly bigger than the hole in the housing so compresses and seals. However, they go hard and can perish, hence why they leak.
As a side note and perhaps a check you can carry out at the same time: later plastic thermostat housings are fastened to the engine with two bolts, the bolt holes are sleeved and it is the sleeves that corrode and balloon cracking the housing..just make sure the leak isn't from there.
