Flipped gearbox ...

Do we have a thread on this? I've searched, but maybe I'm using the wrong terms.

Sounds like a possible solution to the installation of a TDI motor without the hassle of re-engineering the standard gearbox: apparently it's possible to install a 5- or 6-speed box from a Passat or similar, by putting it in upside down with the addition of a bespoke adapter plate.

Has anyone a link to more detail? Cheers.

I've considered going from AAZ to AGG/2E, but I rather like the idea of getting the longevity (and reliability) of a diesel that has enough power to cruise at 70+ mph without being stuck at maximum revs.

I think the hassle of chopping a modern gearbox and running it upside down, coupled with adapting the gearchange system is about the same hassle as having the std t. 25 box modded, strengthened and geared to better suit the low torque of a tdi.

Lots of threads....many on BY about its trials and tribulations
