Engine trouble : (

Hey, hoping someone can give me a steer as I am stuck.
My van (88, T25 water cooled 2 ltr petrol). Exhaust always been blowly and misfires occasionally, no big deal, need a new one prior to new MOT.
Now I have a bigger issue - needs loads of revs to stop stalling and keeps cutting out when put in gear / start to move, no power or pull. Does always start though. Water and oil is fine. Luckily just about managed to limp home from lastest trip though took an age. Prior to this was fine. No cant move from drive : (
Any owners out there got any ideas where to start ? or any ideas of what the issue could be ?
Appreciate any support !
Thanks - Bryan

Is it firing on all four plugs ? Have you got fuel in the tank ? Is fuel reaching the carb ?
Basic checks first. mine did similar and it was a duff spark plugs. Hope this helps

Thanks Mickey for the prompt reply - the interweb is great !
Is not fuel or carb - so will check sparkies somehow - had new ones / leads six months ago so thats why I asked before checking....
Appreciate your help.

Is it a 1.9 or a 2.1? I see you have said a carb model so assuming original pierburg on the 1.9???
This sounds exactly like my problems earlier this year....

Rev the nuts off and slip the clutch to pull away?
Went through everything (see the thread) and only resolved completely by renewing ALL the vacuum tubes.
Check for spark
Check main fule filter and small cone filter in carb
Check for good fuel flow from fuel pump
Work through the vacuum pipes methodically and don't forget the servo pipe on the left manifold - they get very perished. You will be amazed how much a tiny bit of air getting in upsets these engines.
...
The list goes on...

How many vacuum tubes are there please? I know there is one from the distributor and the one to the air filter. What others?
Thanks.

Having said I changed ALL someone will no doubt correct me but, the ones I replaced:
Brake servo (from left intake manifold)
dizzy to front (toward the cab) of carb
front of carb to air filter
air filter to air intake (rhs of engine bay where the warm air pipes go to exhaust (both assuming later dg with round type filter - dont know if its the same on earlier/other engines)
(apparently the air filter ones can be blanked off at the carb end without any problem)
lower carb body to choke pull down on rear of carb (toward the back of the van)
front of carb body to the other black diaphragm cylinder (i think this is something to do with the fast idle or accelerator or summit!)
Think thats it!
