Bonded Windows ? Are they possible on a Caravelle ?

After returning from the annual pilgrimage to Cornwall, I have decided that it is time to put right all that is wrong with my 1989, Subaru powered Caravelle. The list includes gearbox overhaul, new ring gear, wheel bearings, rear drum brakes, fuel leaking from the top of the fuel tank when you fill it up, etc, etc. As well as needing the rear, nearside wheel arch replacing through rust, the seams need doing along with a complete respray. The window rubbers all need replacing but I was wondering if anyone has any experience of fitting bonded type windows to a T25 that has manufacturers windows already fitted. I have yet to approach a bonded window supplier to ask them but would prefer advice from like minded people on here who are not trying to flog you something.

It's _possible_... After all, bonded windows are glass glued to steel.

You'd need different sized glass, and it'd sit recessed not flush, so whether you'd actually want the end result or not is a different question.

When you take a window out, hold the glass into the bare recess - that's pretty much what you'll get bonding them.

The way these vans flex and vibrate I'd stick to rubber :D

Thanks for the useful advice. It was only an idea but I think the best bet would be to replace all the rubber seals and black the windows out.

Have you considered selling the 'velle and buying a panel van?

The glass would only be glued to one panel so flex shouldnt be a problem. I mean they do them for defenders! Does anone have a photo of one? Seem to remember someone on here had an approximation using tint and vinyl wrap

I`ve had my Caravelle for 15 years now and although I have considered selling it, I`m just too attached to it. I was only toying with the bonded windows idea to see if it was feasible as I`m going to have to spend some serious money on it. As for a new van, T4 & T5 ? Too much like a Ford Transit for my taste and too bloody practical ! I`d rather spend the money on keeping the T25 on the road.
