Westy fridge when you drive I know you keep it on Battery.
When you stop engine off, I know your supposed to go on gas then(if no hookup) but can you leave it on battery? will it still work with the engine off?

depending on how it is wired up you may be able to run it while the enjin is off! however your battery won't last that long with the fridge running off it! fridge runs about 7Amps - on an 80Ah battery, it'll last 11 hours if it's flly charged!

Westy OE fridge operation -
when driving, it runs from the 12v ENGINE battery, ONLY works when engine is running, will switch off as soon as you stop the engine.
when parked - run off gas
when hooked up - run off 240V
Don`t try and have more than one switch pressed in or it can cause damage

Westy owd lad, just out of curiosity, can you tell me if all Westies have 3-way fridges or do some have 2-way as standard?

Couldn`t say mate, I`ve only come across westies with OE 3 way fridge. Baxter is more likely to know about such-like. He seems to be the oracle on the job

when the engine is running the relay is switched for the leisure battery to accept the charge from the alternator, when the alternator stops sending a signal(power) to the relay it disconnects the alternator and engine battery from the circuit. in short you could wire the fridge up to the leisure battery direct but your battery would be flat before you could blink, thats why you have gas and 240v hookup.
