Just fitted new mountings to my 83 1.9 df, three lined up and dropped fine but the os outer seems to be an inch or more from the peg hole on the top of the mounting. is this normal or have I done something wrong before I try and wrestle it into place ?

Don't try to bolt anything until the engine is at least resting on mounts and carrier. Basically you'll have a counple of nuts on but not wound up and progressively you can get the others on. Don't worry, we all struggle with that one!

Even the engine carrier has to be loose.

Done it with a little thinking a cuppa and a fag just to concentrate the mind ! Only sheared two bolts on the engine cradle but had some spare in my workshop !

I always think of it as VW's ultimate Rubiks cube....

If that was a mk Ford escort I could have taken the engine out and put it back in again in the time that took!
