Morning all

I want to give the inside of my van a bit of a spruce up over winter, including giving the metal paint work a bit of a refresh. Is there any way I can do this without going down to bare metal and all that jazz? Is there a type of paint that will work on existing metal paint?

Still waiting to win the lottery so that I can have a full respray... One day my van will be orange, mark my words

I know of no paint that doesn't need a key.

"Watching" because I have been meaning to tidy up some of the interior metal work on mine.

I was wondering if a flattening back with fine wet and dry, then use Rustoleum, brushed on, in the correct colour for the van (White, L90D in my case), then perhaps another light flatten back, another coat, then polish, would be satisfactory?

you don't need wet and dry to key the paint.
you need scotch brite red and some panel wipe.

So my lazy idea is a non starter, I need to scrub the paint off and get back to bare metal?

No, Kev is saying you just need to clean and then "key" the surface so the new paint will stick.

Which I think means my plan is OK if I modify it by using the Red Scotchbrite pads (off now to Google them )

1, rub the scotch pads over the paint till it dulls. (quick)
2, Wipe it with the panel wipe (quite quick)
3, let it dry (very quick)
4, paint it (slow, unless you masked up)

Rustoleum a wise choice as it levels out lovely and providing you work fast, you shouldn't get much in the way of brush marks.

But if you want L90D they will have to mix you some and the minimum is 2.5Ltr at some huge price. I only need 1/4 of a pint (in old money )
