I've finally given up on the idea of getting a cheap Kamper pop top, so will replace my rotten roof with a Devon, as soon as I get my sweaty palms on one

But.....I'm thinking of taking the rotten one off ready, and getting the guttering replace as it's all rotten. But what do I fill the hole with until the guttering is done and the new roof fitted? I would like to be able to drive it around in between getting gutters done and fitting new roof.

Any ideas

you could try and make a plug out of thin ply (so it flexes with the contours of the roof) three different layers
1. top piece 1 inch bigger that hole allround
2. middle piecs exact size of hole
3. bottom layer same size as the top
so it is a sort of sandwich nipping the edges of the hole/roof. blot this allround with small bolts (not through the roof metal just the wood sandwich. over the top you could then cut a square of waterproof sheet and tape it over the plug with duct tape to keep the water out. im not very good at explaining but this might help.

Thanks Leroy, it's just what I wanted, and I can just picture it. I imagined the top layer, but couldn't think how to make it sit to the metal without drilling holes.

Now for the Devon roof and a welder in Hampshire !!!

hope this works. i did a very schooly drawing on paint to try and explain the plug. use really thin ply and when you tighten up the bolts the 'sandwich' should pull together and trap the roof.
