Which coil for a CU engine with points?

Well, as the title really - my van has a points-equipped SVDA dizzy, so I believe the standard coil for an electronic ignition CU engine might not be suitable.

The only identifying mark on the current coil (several years old) is a sticker which says 'Valeo 245010 292'. It measures 5.5kohm from 1-4 and 3.6ohm across 1-15.

I've got a Bosch coil as a spare, a blue label one, number 0 221 119 027 which is what GSF's computer says is required for my van. It measures 7.2kohm 1-4 and 3ohm 1-15.

All very different resistances to those detailed in the wiki...

The engine runs with the new Bosch coil but it did seem to heat up faster than the Valeo one, so I've reverted back to that.

Anyone know if the Bosch one will be ok? I don't want to fry my points!

If it has points ignition then it needs a coil of around 3 ohms primary resistance measured across terminals 1 & 15. The secondary resistance (1-4) just governs the maximum output voltage the coil is able to supply to the plugs, but as the HT system under runs the maximum output of a standard coil either coil will be suitable, but the Bosch one would be able to produce higher voltages.
