Who did this conversion?

Our van (bought two weeks ago) is a 1985, C-reg, RHD van with (we believe) a DG engine.

We went round the entire VW North West show on August 3rd looking for a van converted like ours to work out who might have done it, when-ish and where-ish. Among the tin-tops, pop-tops, high-tops and very high-tops, we didn't see one that looked like ours inside or out.

If it helps, the van seems to spent a chunk of the last 7 years in the Lymm, Knutsford, South Manchester area.

I hope these photos are halfway useful - does our van look familiar to anyone? The bottom "go-faster" stripes are black and the two higher sets of stripes are navy blue, if the photos aren't that clear.

Gwynfor is Welsh for "the great white one". Yeah, I know, I know... :?

PS Ignore the ground-off engine number and the "relocated" fuel filter - sore points both.

The interior looks home brew with Autosleeper catches, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along with the answer.

Many thanks. This van has more mysteries than Midsomer Murders!

This would have been the interior for a 1985 Autosleeper

If it was an Autosleeper, of course. My van has this interior, but a hi-top roof has been plonked on instead of the pop top.

Jane and Mark, thanks very much. I'm thinking of re-recording an old Dolly Parton hit. "Van of Many Colours".
