looking at a 1.6td to buy. the owner tells me the oil warning buzzer comes on when the van has been on a run and is hot. he assures me all is fine with the engine but if so why does the low oil pressure warning sound? :?

1. engine shagged
2. sensor shagged
3. electrics shagged
if its the same as petrol then wire to sensor could be damaged and shorting out somewhere or windscreen letting in water and corroding dash electrics.

If it really is only when hot after a run (and it can be hard to be exact about these things), then I can't see how that would be electrics. Someone more knowledgeable will be along soon, but hot engine means thinner oil, which means ???

But if the guy's offering this info up front, that might be a good sign.

(Presuming you've checked wiki re buzzer of doom?)

WHEN I FIRST GOT MY VAN (FROM A DEALER) IT WAS PUMPING OIL OUT AND THE BUZZER OF DOOM CAME ON AFTER DRIVING 5 OR SO MILES.
CONTACTED DEALER. NOT INTRESTED.
HAD A POKE AROUND AND FOUND THE PROBLEM FOR THE OIL PUMPING OUT. CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. BUT BUZZER STILL CAME ON AFTER ABOUT 10 MILES. TURN OF IGNITION, TURN IT ON AGAIN, WHILL STILL DRIVING, NO BUZZER. ANOTHER 10 MILES SAME THING.
ONE DAY DRIVING TO SEE RELATIONS IN LONDON NO BUZZER. THAT WAS 2 YEARS AGO. EVERY THING STILL WORKING OK

SORRY ABOUT ALL CAPS. KEYBOARD UP THE CREAK.GOT TO FIND MY OTHER ONE
