I've recently rebuilt my aaz. I got the injectors reconditioned also. Had a few short runs and its been ok, apart from a bit of oil from the turbo (but that's a different story)

Anyway, I took it for its first proper run out today. Upto 50mph on the motorway. All going well, pulls lovely, then after 6 miles it died on me. Just stalled and wouldn't restart. It turned over fine, until I flattened the battery. Once I got the jump leads and waited half hour she started up and I drove her home, no problems.

When I got home I had a quick check and the balloon style prime hand pump was flat, sucked right in on itself.

I'm not sure what's wrong but I'm thinking either
- balloon style prime pump is knackered or
- problem with the fuel injection pump

Not sure if its connected but when I was cleaning fuel tank out I put the return hose from engine into a tub. After running the engine for 10 minutes about 1litre of diesel was in the tub from the fuel return?

Any ideas/similar problems

Those squeezy primers aren't meant to be be used permanently, it isn't surprising that it collapsed in on itself with the engine running. If you need to use a pump all the time you have an airleak into the fuel line somewhere allowing fuel to drain back.

Thought not. It was on when I bought it then I read a page on the wiki recomending them with clear fuel lines.
Gonna do another run tomorrow without it.

I had this problem a few times when the fuel line or filter housing became blocked with debris from the fuel tank (I suspect as a result of previous owner using chip-shop cooking oil!). I put in an in-line filter to give me early warning of a recurrence. Taking the fuel fuel tank off and cleaning it out would be the best way to solve that issue. Many older Peugeots and Citroen diesels had bulb fuel primers. They are the ones I have read about on this forum.

Strange that you mention that - I once had the banjo on the fuel filter bunged up with what looked like hair/fur! The rubber bulb primers do not seem to need a lot of suction for them to collapse in on themselves as the walls are too thin to withstand the higher delivery rates at full throttle. I suspect that those older French ones were more robust.

Pump removed and 20 odd mile done without fuel starvation.
