Disaster! Aaz Engine cut out

I've recently rebuilt my aaz. I got the injectors reconditioned also. Had a few short runs and its been ok, apart from a bit of oil from the turbo (but that's a different story)
Anyway, I took it for its first proper run out today. Upto 50mph on the motorway. All going well, pulls lovely, then after 6 miles it died on me. Just stalled and wouldn't restart. It turned over fine, until I flattened the battery. Once I got the jump leads and waited half hour she started up and I drove her home, no problems.
When I got home I had a quick check and the balloon style prime hand pump was flat, sucked right in on itself.
I'm not sure what's wrong but I'm thinking either
- balloon style prime pump is knackered or
- problem with the fuel injection pump
Not sure if its connected but when I was cleaning fuel tank out I put the return hose from engine into a tub. After running the engine for 10 minutes about 1litre of diesel was in the tub from the fuel return?
Any ideas/similar problems
