Brake light sensitivity

Is there any way of adjusting the brake light switch, so that the lights come on with a lighter press of the pedal?

I've recently fitted some new LED bulbs and I had a problem with the driver's side brake light not working. I think I've sorted it now (corroded connection) but trying to test it is impossible on my own! My usual trick is to sit something heavy like a toolbox on the pedal to activate the light, but my toolbox just isn't heavy enough! The pedal needs a really good shove to get the lights to come on.

I would prefer my brake lights to come on before I'm pressing the pedal all the way down, so is there any way to adjust the switch so it comes on under less pressure?

No it is hydraulic pressure operated but as the switch wears the pressure increases it probably just needs a new switch.

Ah, right. I'll have to look into that then, thanks.

I dunno. Hakuna Matata has this issue and replacing the switches didn't cure it. I think he ended up fitting a microswitch next to the pedal.

OK, silly question time; how do I get to the switch?

As the brake light operation is 'solely' controlled by these switches the sensitivity or otherwise can only be down to their operation.
I am going to suggest that 'cheap' switches may have been the issue here.

Switches...as you will discover, are situated underneath the speedo binnacle (pull the plastic surround upwards at the rear, next to windscreen)

Ah, thanks. I am familiar with things under the binnacle - I found a brake fluid reservoir there, of all places!

You'll have one or two brake light switches screwed into the master cylinder.

If there are 2 replace them both.
