Hi,
Van has been sorn for two years & I have been working on it to get it ready for MOT, starts and runs fine then when choke goes in it dies, starts again but wont tickover unless Im blipping the throttle.
Clean fuel in it
New Vacuum Hoses front and back of Carb
From Carb to Dizzy
From Carb to Top of Air filter
New Air filter
Carb cleaned, new gaskets for carb.
New hose from Brickwerks from inlet manifold
Its been for a 'run' around the WWII air field where I live...not much further.
Any ideas as I have run out of them.
Thanks, Richard

Check for air leaks
runs rich on choke so ok as soon as the choke comes off the air leak makes it lean and stalls
you have changed the vac hoses but pull them off at carb and suck then blow, you shoukl not be able to suck or blow any air
then check the cut off solenoid, top centre electrical connection to carb, ignition on remove and reconnect, you should hear a click on reconnect, if this is faulty it will stall on idle
Do that then report back
cheers
Paul

Cheers ItchyFeet...
Solenoid is clicking - checked & ok
vacuum hose from Carb > Dizzy - checked & ok
vacuum hose from Carb > Air Filter - checked & ok
Theres 2 small hoses carb to carb, do these need to be checked or will I get a mouthful of unleaded
Waht about the hose attached to Inlet Manifold ?
Cheers, Richard

Yeh check the manufold vac pipe for the servo brakes on the nearside
after that id say idle jet blocked maybe,
you could try checking the fuel filter but if it runs full chat its not going to be fuel delivery
could also try the wd40 trick to look for air leaks around the carb gaskets and vac pipes brick on the throttle until it just runs then spray, listen for revs to increase as it gets sucked in
You could also just try adjusting the throttle stop screw, choke has fast idle, its just possible its just idling too low revs due to the throttle stop?

Hi
Inlet Manifold pipe is fine
WD40 no change in engine note
Which one is the idle jet..?
I have noticed that the lever for the accelerator pump isnt actually touching the cam and is not under any tension, should it be ? Is it spring loaded ?
Cheers, Richard

Same thing
Throttle stop here just below disc shaped choke pull down unit, turn it a few turns clockwise its just a stop like keeping your foot on the pedal a bit

Hi,
Jet looked clean, blasted it with cleaner.
Why would I adjust this screw, the van 'was' running fine when it was last on the road, Ive not adjusted this since..
Thanks for all your help..

You dont have to adjust it, its your van
as i said its just a throttle stop, its not adjusting the carb mixture settings, you can always put it back
if your van is idling at low revs it may stall, worth a shot

still no joy..
Discovered the inline fuel filter, I have 2...one in the engine bay and one absolutely covered in crud under the van..
I dont expect this 2nd one under the van has been looked at for years as to be honest I didnt know it was there !
I will replace all the fuel lines as well, dont expect this to be root cause but dont know what else to do...

as it runs on choke there must be enough fuel supply to the carb, it has to be weak mixture i think
take the fuel filter out of the engine bay it should not be there its potentially dangerous as its plastic and not designed to get hot

yep, did that during me lunch hour

Just got to ge the new fuel hoses and replace...the other filter is filthy...had to cut off the fittings as all the clamps were rotten, hoses perished and split at the ends...pretty shabby...
