Accelerator pedal - is 'rod' supposed to be easily removable

Firstly please excuse non techno lingo....
I have a T 25, automatic air cooled. The rod (?) that connects from the underside of the accelerator pedal through the floor seems to be easily removable... Is that how it is supposed to be? It's just that it came adrift in a traffic queue on Friday, we assumed disaster but actually it just hooked back in...disaster averted but it seems a bit, erm....insecure! Thoughts please!

On a manual it clips onto the pedal and then rests in a hole on the linkage below. Never had one come off

My old van used to do this, never really investigated it though, think it happened if I accidently lifted the pedal when taking my foot off the brake possibly? Maybe the slot on the pedal where the rod clips is worn/damaged. Its much more secure on the van I have now.

Just looked in the manual, it looks like there is a short rod with a bend on each end, the top end loops into the back of the pedal and the lower end goes into the top of a right angle lever that goes out the bottom of the van. On the manual transmission one there is a small circlip that stops the bottom end of the rod coming out of the lever; in the auto version this clip is not shown not to say it is suppost to be there. I can't post a picture as it is not allowing me to copy the page from the electronic mauual I have.
As clear as mud ??? :ok

It's hard to assume what an automatic is like as there are no pics of the pushrod on the net

However the manual pushrod (number eight) clips into the pedal (number 2) and the other end has an upside down U shape that sits in the hole of the linkage below the floorpan (number 1)

I'd assume the automatic is very similar

This is the best I could do with the phone as I don't have the camera at the moment.
I can't get a picture on the back of the pedal as there is not enough room.
Any good??

All good stuff, it seems that it is what it is. Thankyou all for comments and photos, i feel reassured that there is nothing technically missing apparently. Here's hoping it was a one off drama. :0)

I had the same problem at the beginning of the year, to my mind the pedal pin wasnt very substantial when it comes to resting in the hole so i welded a small 1/4" extra bit of rod running Horizontal so the pin has no chance of slipping off/out off the hole now, sorted.
