power steering pump - any other cars use the same?

so yesterday i was working with my carpenter mate and we got back to his shop with smoke coming out the rhs vent at the back............
"yer bus is on fire" he yells, (in german.................)
turned out be burning hydraulic oil on the exhaust , the reservoir is about half full and the pump casing all wet.
haven't had time to do anything else apart from whipping the drive belt off so it don't pump any more.
i never had any other power steering bus apart from this one so any infos as to replacements are very welcome.
no rush, going off on a french trip in a week but my reliable camper is a bay...............

And there are quite a few places that will do exhange power steering on a return service. Suggest Birmingham and the Midlands as most of them were started by people that worked in car making and set up on their own. Its a case of trawling the net and calling a few.
ACS Power Steering definately do them - about £80 with deposit of £25. Up to you if you want to strip yours but may work out cheaper just to exchange it in the end. Weigh it up.

thanks for the comments lads, but i do already know all that about new gasket sets or replacing it with a new one, these are also very available in europe and there are plenty fine engineers locally without me having to come to the midlands.............
what i'd be interested to find out is actually whether the same pump is /was used on other vehicles.

I think the lack of reply on that would suggest that the answer is no, or we don't know. However, to my knowledge they are vehicle specific in this instance. Brickwerks may be able to verify this.

I don't think it is NO...but rather 'don't Know'.
I'm pretty sure that it you look at Golf's/Passat's/Jetta's/Audi 80's/Audi 100's/Audi Coupé (remember that not all would have had power steering, only high end Golfs/Jetta's for instance) .....one or more of the above Circa 85 - 92 would have used the same pump.

i agree with you, but where i live cars over ten years old are rather rare..................
but yes, they would be high end spec if they survived.
i haven't really studied the pump yet but i think it's ZF and i can call them quite easily but i'm really on holiday.
