JX alternator/water pump belt issue

As standard it looks like there should be 1 belt that runs from the crank pulley to the waterpump, than another that runs from the waterpump to the alternator. Mine has just 1 that is fitted so it goes around both at once, and I see lots of JX's with the same arrangement. My question is can this cause problems, as the waterpump & alternator run at a lower speed when the single belt configuration is used, due to the step down instead of step up ratio of the pulleys?
