I'm seeing dashcams on t' bay o'fleas from about a tenner. Any thoughts on the quality? I'm more interested in the 'accident recording' scenario than a travelog.

Firstly this subject comes up a lot on here but the threads often get deleted. I would suggest you take a look at:

He is informative and will guide you through both cheap and expensive ones. Too big a field to natter about here. I do have one though.

It won't have the field of view you need. My "10 Days In Wales Pt 2" video is all filmed from the dashcam:

Even the cloud sequence at the beginning (sped up in post editing) was shot on same cam. Its mounted at top of my windscreen and barely noticeable. Its not HD ofcourse but serves its purpose. Dashcams are now incredibly cheap these days. Don't know why everyone doesn't have one given the ridiculously low cost and any potential evidence it might capture in an insurance claim. For the small outlay it can help protect and reduce the cost of your insurance. There are just too many greedy crooks out there who will try to claim when they were the cause.

I love threasd on other forums where people post "Look what some idiot did to me!" videos. There's usually so much contributory muppetry on the part of the outraged poster...

Must be a record, encountered FIVE muppets in the space of 10 minutes going home. Was glad to get in.

I suppose the acid test is:

Will the camera pick uip a reg number. If it doesn't, a notepad may be just as useful. :D

Just tried uploading Vid to photobucket but quality was P!ss poor. Youtube is a little better.
Anyhoo my muppet was VX63 ZTT Can see very clearly on my laptop so happy with results. First time i've had a play downloading any vids from the cam since I bought it a few months ago and very easy.
Not that I will be putting up vids of anyone who cuts me up but nice to know I will have some proof should an incident occur.

Would recommend anyone getting one. :ok

Even if you were, that shouldn't excuse him from pulling out in front of you. If anything, it makes it even more stupid of him - unless, of course, he's claiming that you were going SOOOOOOOOOOOO fast that he couldn't possibly have seen you?

Even 70mph is just over 30 metres per second. Highway Code stopping distance is 96m - three seconds away. How bad is his eyesight that he can't see a car from a hundred metres away...?

I know what your saying and that's exactly what I say everytime I ring Direct Line on their 0845 number! Apparently they can claim for negligent driving! I was not speeding in fact it was only a 30 zone and the bloody air bags didn't go off! Our Astra was written off and we've bought a Mk2 5dr Golf Gti :) one good thing I suppose!
