We've got a 1Z 1.9TDI conversion on our Westy, in very wet weather it lost power, engine still ran at tick over but no throttle. Lots of Vaseline and WD40 around the potentiometer seemed to solve it. But we also got a bit of shudder from 1900-2500rpm (40-55mph), so i've found a 2nd hand potentiometer and had it swapped out by Andy at Farnborough VW Centre, now we have shudder from approx 2200-3200rpm...
So Tallulah drives better up to 50mph, but way worse from 50-70mph.
This is the potentiometer, Bosch # is 0205 001 037 (058) but can anyone tell me what the original donor car might be? Or what the VAG part # might be? Andy and myself are struggling to find a new replacement, so any help would be appreciated

Why is the pedal sender suspected ? Did you read any fault codes ? That type in the pic is fairly universal, if its physically the same and the plug's the same it'll be OK. The auto ones have an extra wire, but work fine with the ECU coded to manual trans.

Google says Passat B4 1.9 tdi.

Syncrodaddy - to answer your question "Why is the pedal sender suspected ?", the shudder is possibly unrelated, but the potentiometer was diagnosed as the root cause for the following...on the drive back from buying the van in Holland she stopped 3 times in all, each time I was driving in heavy rain/very wet roads. This happened again down in Devon at Easter, after this incident, I covered the potentiometer cables in Vaseline and WD40 and have driven through heavy rain and on wet roads with no problem since.

I was kind of hoping that the same dodgy potentiometer could be the cause of shudder as it's definitely throttle related. Since changing the potentiometer on Monday for another used unit, the shudder is still there, just at different speeds and a higher rev band.

Any other thoughts on what might cause a power related shudder? Appreciate that's a daft, open-ended question without experiencing it for yourself! Easing off or puting your foot down does clear the shudder, but at 60-70 powering on isn't a comfy option!
