high top to pop top...or not?

Has anyone got a view on the feasibility of changing a high-top to a pop top? has anyone any experience of recycling second hand pop tops? we have a high top (Sheldon) that's great for storage but frankly is a bit of a pain in other ways (starting to look a bit ropey, won't fit into car parks on the beach etc). I presume the obvious cons of such radical surgery are the state of the roof underneath (let sleeping dogs / rust?) etc. I don't particularly want to change vans - we've got to know each other's irritations after a long time together and we've both reached an uneasy truce where I'm having to open my wallet less and he's not spending as mud time on the back of a transporter.... Having a high top is useful for headroom as well. What are new pop tops like?

Fabzzz has recently done this to a hi-top Syncro. Check out his thread on the syncro pages. I think it's called "my first syncro", and is already an inspiration to many (or a warning, depending on how you look at it).

i am restoring a devon with a poptop at the moment & have taken it all off the van as i am prepping for paint, i did think that when i took it off i thought about putting a hightop on but i spoke to my mate who used to have one who said the same as you regarding not be able to get in some beach car parks & other places with barriers , so the poptop is going back on once van is painted :D

Thanks both and sorry for delay in responding

Zedd - interested to know what your roof was like after you had taken the pop top off?
Has it taken a lot of work?

Need to update this as am a long way on from where she was! but this is what i found lurking under mine! https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=128288" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

took about 8 weeks to get her back on the road having only taught my self to weld over christmas! anything is possible :P

Having said that if you're all clear under the high top then its a pretty straight forward swap
