Overheating 1.6td

I there, can anyone help me? New to the forums so if I overstep the rules please let me know. We have a 1990 T25 1.6 td with which we are having a lot of overheating problems. It has been serviced, sailed through its MOT, had radiator flushed out, new thermostat, water pump and all pipes and wires checked but as soon as it comes to a hill the temperature needle nearly goes off the scale, the fan cuts in but unless we have some down hill to cool it down, we can't go anywhere and with the weather being so hot at the moment it is definitely a no-no. Any ideas anyone? SJ

Reads like a coolant flow issue.
Thermostat (even new ones are crap did you check it first before fitting?)
sludged pipes (mixed antifreeze)
water pump failing or belt slipping
trapped air

Thanks for suggestions. Will talk to mechanic, just have to trust them as i'm not mechanical. If I cant get it going tho will have to sell it, which I don't want to as I love it so much. Only had it 3 years but it is part of the family in a way. SJ :(

Flushing a rad out never works that well. New is best, and make sure it's the one for the 1.6td
